Year of the Arts

Buffalo State is widely known for its extensive programs in the visual, performing, and literary arts. Many famed artists got their start at Buffalo State—painter Robert Longo and photographer Cindy Sherman to name just two—while over 15,000 Buffalo State arts alumni can be found in a diverse array of graduate schools and professional settings.

The largest visual arts program among the SUNY comprehensive colleges, Buffalo State offers degrees in the areas of art, art conservation, art education, arts and letters, communication, design, English, interior design, modern and classical languages, music, philosophy, television and film arts, theater, and writing.

An anchor institution in Buffalo’s cultural corridor, the university's close proximity to the city’s arts and culture district provides its students with significant opportunities for curricular enrichment, including unique collaborations with area theaters and galleries.
